2-Nitrophenyl b-D-fucopyranoside (2NPBF) is a reactive compound that can be used to control the expression of messenger RNA in cells. It binds to the ribosome and blocks translation, resulting in an inhibition of protein synthesis. 2NPBF has been used as a hybridization control agent for DNA, RNA, and protein samples.
